The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI Original Singers Symphony – Singapore

1920x1080_STThis June, fans of Japanese animation and orchestral music will be treated to a rare, magical experience as The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI – Original Singers Symphony makes its Singapore debut at The Star Theatre on 11 June 2025 (Wednesday). This one-night-only concert will bring together the original singers and voice talents from some of the most iconic films in anime history, backed by a live orchestra direct from Japan.

For the first time in Singapore, the audience will be able to enjoy live performances by original cast members whose voices were featured in the soundtracks of some of Studio Ghibli’s most beloved titles:

  • Yoshikazu Mera – Acclaimed countertenor known for his performance of the theme from Princess Mononoke.
  • Sumi Shimamoto – Celebrated singer and voice actress best known for her roles in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, The Castle of Cagliostro, and more.
  • Azumi Inoue – Renowned for her gentle, timeless vocals featured in Laputa: Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro.
  • Yuyu – Rising singer and daughter of Azumi Inoue, who debuted on NHK’s Minna no Uta in 2012 and continues to charm audiences with her fresh interpretations.

The audience can look forward to hearing songs from classics such as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke, performed by the original vocalists who helped define these unforgettable melodies. This is a rare opportunity to hear these signature songs live, performed with the same voices that first brought them to life.

Backed by the Tokyo Asia Orchestra
The concert will be accompanied by the Tokyo Asia Orchestra, a 17-member ensemble from Japan led by Takeshi Hashima – a distinguished violinist and concertmaster who has led numerous Ghibli-themed performances globally. The orchestra’s symphonic arrangements will enhance the vocals with lush, expressive instrumentation that adds new emotional depth to the familiar melodies.

From ethereal ballads to adventurous anthems, the concert will span a wide emotional and musical range, immersing attendees in the sonic worlds of the films in a powerful live setting.
